Culture

Hội An and Da Nang are deeply rooted in history, blending centuries-old traditions with modern influences. From the vibrant lantern-lit streets of Hội An to the spiritual serenity of Da Nang’s pagodas, locals take great pride in preserving their heritage. To be a respectful tourist, embrace the local customs—dress modestly when visiting temples, greet people with a friendly smile, and always remove your shoes before entering homes or sacred spaces. Vietnamese people value politeness and kindness, and by showing appreciation for their culture, you'll experience the warmth and generosity they’re known for.

Cuisine

The food in the Hội An and Da Nang region is a vibrant mix of traditional Vietnamese flavors and global influences. From fresh herbs and seafood in classic dishes like *cao lầu* and *bánh mì* to the delicate balance of sweet, salty, and sour that defines the cuisine, every meal is a testament to the pride Vietnamese people take in their cooking.

Even if you find yourself craving something other than local fare, you'll discover some of the best pizza, cheeseburgers, and even Tex-Mex you’ve ever had—Vietnamese hospitality extends to every dish, no matter the cuisine.

Weather

The Hội An and Da Nang regions are typically warm and tropical, with distinct seasons that shape the travel experience. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from February to August, when the days are sunny, and the beaches are perfect for lounging. The rainy season, from September to January, brings heavier rainfall, but also fewer crowds and cooler temperatures. Even during the rainy months, the region’s charm remains, as brief showers are often followed by clear skies. Be sure to pack accordingly and check the forecast, as the weather can be unpredictable, especially during the transition between seasons.

Vietnam Currency Dong 200.000: Stack of VND Vietnam banknote

Currency

The currency in Vietnam is the Vietnamese đồng (VND), and it can feel a bit overwhelming for newcomers. As of September 2024, withdrawing just $120 USD from a local bank instantly makes you a Vietnamese millionaire, with over 2.8 million VND in your hands. The high denominations can take some getting used to, especially when dealing with everyday expenses like meals or shopping. It’s always a good idea to familiarize yourself with the exchange rates and double-check prices to avoid any confusion. Despite the large numbers, the cost of living is very affordable, making your money stretch far in this beautiful region.
